All you need to know about K2 Base camp Trek

K2 is known as the “Mountains of Mountains” and “Mountaineer Mountain” and these mountains are considered to be one of the world’s best treks with spectacular and breathtaking scenery which you can never find when visiting any other high mountain areas.

Whether you’re traveling within Pakistan or you’re a foreigner, you’ve to start your journey from Islamabad. The tour begins from a direct flight to Skardu, which is famous for the mountains, greenery, atmosphere, rivers and the beautiful people which attract most of the visitors when on the way to K2. Taking two days’ rest would be great to explore the Karakoram Ranges, including Nanga Parbat, and then you can continue your journey towards the trekking or rather K2 peaks.

Now, as you’ve taken two days rest and you’re relaxed and set to go, you’ve to pick a Jeep ride which will take you to the Askole Valley — ever heard of this valley? If No, then here’s a little detail about it.

Askole Valley / Village

Askole Valley surrounded by the best landscapes, surroundings, and environments. And from Askole, loads are distributed to the army of partners, who will carry everything to the base camp because there are no roads, no walk away, and nothing comfortable but the hiking trek of 90KM.

Jola

If you want to visit Jola, then it’s 6-7 hours trekking from Askole Village. Jola means that your physical health must be strong enough to visit the place.

Paiju

Are you a green spot lover? If yes, then there’s bad news for you because, before moving to K2 trekking and K2 Peaks, it’s the last green spot and you’re going to witness Baltoro Glaciers, Steep mountains with high slopes and a lot more.

LiliGo 3000M

When you reach LiliGo place, you’ll be able to see the Trango Tower Across, and you won’t be able to stop yourself from taking a selfie or record the moment because you hardly witness such landscapes once in your lifetime.

When going for K2 trek and eye-witnessing the spectacular K2 peaks, you need to have such equipment to carry with you because safety always comes first and it’s better to take precautionary measurements to warden off impending danger.

Important Equipment to Carry

Following are the critical equipment you must keep in your bucket because you might need them anytime.

  • You must have Ice Screws
  • You must have Rock Pitons
  • You must have Countless Carabiners
  • You must have Snow Stakes
  • You must have Static Ropes
  • You must-have Korean Rope
  • You must have Bamboo Stakes
  • You must have Tents
  • You must have Food (Vinegar, Oil, Toilet Paper, Spaghetti, Noodles, Cheese, Canned Food and most crucial water)
  • You must have an Oxygen Cylinder

Plan your trek with above equipment. Base camp successful, full of memories and above all, staying safe.

Risk Factors

Altitude illness affects 25-80% of the travelers who love to travel K2 peaks, depending upon their rate of home altitude, individual susceptibility, and their risk factors. So, if you’ve any height phobia or going through some illness, then we recommend you not to go for a base camp because why risking your life? More risk factors include: Harsh Weather and Avalanches from the flanks of the K2 are the most significant risks while trekking to K2.

Baltoro Glaciers

These glaciers are known as the longest glaciers outside the polar region of about 63 Kilometer long and 2 Kilometers wide. Baltoro Glaciers are difficult to cross because there are challenging treks which are uneven, slippery, and 90Km/h wind speed can cause you a lot of troubles. But that’s what K2 Peaks and K2 Trekking is all about: Risks, Adventure, Enjoyment, Coldness, Lifetime Experience, and much more.

So, after crossing the Baltoro Glaciers, you’ll finally be reaching the K2 base camps, and from here most of the adventurers are unable to proceed just because of the bad weather. Statistically, the southeast spur of the K2 is the most often climbed route used for Hiking.

The journey of the K2 Climb divided into four parts.

  • Camp 1
  • Camp 2
  • Camp 3
  • Camp 4

Camp 1 - Chimney

The technical step name which given to the Camp 1 is House Chimney, named after the first man who climbed it. To reach camp 1, you need to travel a small distance but everything in Vertical climbing of 100m, including the steep approaching of Chimney.

Camp 2

The name given to Camp 2 is Black Pyramid, which is at the height of 6750m, and this is the most challenging part of climbing.

Camp 3

Camp 3 means that you’re near to your destination and you can easily watch Mountains of China, Gasherbrum Groups, Broad Peaks, and Baltoro

Camp 4

Camp 4 means that you’ve reached to the Bottle Neck and there you’re only 100 meters away from reaching summit snow slopes.

And this is the most Dangerous Part where most of the Climbers got killed.
