The Ravlya Fort and Javlya Fort are the twin forts situated in a single Hill plateau of Chandor range. Ravlya Javlya fort located in the Nashik district of Maharashtra earlier. Ravlya Javlya forts were built with a unique purpose. They had the motive of keeping a watch on the trade route from Khandesh to Nashik. The Chawal Fort is on the east side, and the Rawal effort is on the west side of the hill plateau. The Ravlya Javlya fort is also named as Rola-Jola Fort.

History of the Ravlya Javlya Fort

As per the account, the Ravlya and Javlya were two brothers. One day, they walked in a field and saw a woman coming near them each. Both of them said that she is his wife, which gave rise to a hot dispute between them. When the women came closer to them, they came to know that the woman is their sister. They were very ashamed of the reason on which they fought. Consequently, they couldn't take it, made a fire in the field, and jumped into it.

Ravlya Javlya, having jumped in the fire, there was no chance of them being alive. Both of them were burnt to death. Taking active participation in the sacrifices, the sister also jumped into the fire and was burnt to death. In honor of their devotion, the two peaks of Ravlya and Javlya and the tree sprung up. This is how the Fort was named as the Ravlya and Javlya Fort.

The Alvardi Khan won the Ravlya and Javlya Fort in 1636, and He did it as per the instructions given by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj won the Fort in 1670. After Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj passed away, the Mughal saw it as an excellent opportunity to get back the Fort. They regained their control over it. Mahabat Khan invaded the Fort in 1671. Before the British controlled the Fort in 1818, Ravlya Javlya Fort was controlled by the Peshwas for a long tenure. Captain Mackintosh crushed the Fort. He ruined the steps, bastion, and the walls so that no one could ascent the Fort during 1819.

Things to See at Rawlya Jawlya Fort

The base village, Babapur, is easy to access. You can go there by bus. Regular buses run from Nashik to Wani. The Babapur village is just nine kilometers from Wani. The trek starts from the Ravlya and Javlya Fort. Being enclosed by walls with one gate, the Ravlya and Javlya Fort are protected by two towers. Presently, the towers and gate is part of the ruins. The inscription of the gate can be seen even today, along with the Idol of Lord Ganesh. The rock-cut water cisterns are a pleasure to watch. The view from the Ravlya Javlya Fort is beyond praise.
