Adilshah of Bijapur controlled the fort in the early 16th century, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj later won the fort in 1648. Siddhi of Janjira had encircled the fort when Afzal Khan had tried to Kill Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Pratapgad. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj killed Afzal Khan, and when Siddhi got the news, he retreated with his troops to Janjira. Ghosalgad was under the rule of Siddhi, Angre, and Maratha control. British East India company Col. Prother seized the fort in 1818.

Things to see in Ghosalegad Fort

The lengthy fortification along the narrow ridge of the Machi is in excellent shape.
